If you’re searching for the best adventure activity near Split, visiting Omiš should be high on your list – especially if you and your partner are craving a shared adrenaline rush.
During our beach holiday near Sevid, we decided to swap sunbeds for something more daring and experience what many call one of the most scenic ziplines in Europe. Omiš is about a one-hour drive (70 km) from Sevid along the stunning Adriatic coastal route – making it a perfect day trip for couples staying around Split or Trogir.
And what awaited us above the Cetina Canyon was nothing short of unforgettable.
A Little About Omiš: Pirates & Dramatic Landscapes
Located just 25 km south of Split, Omiš, Croatia is famous for two things: pirates and adventure.
In the 15th century, much of the surrounding area belonged to the Venetian Empire. But Omiš was ruled by pirates who used the town’s strategic position – nestled between steep mountains at the mouth of the Cetina River – to ambush merchant ships sailing between Venice, Dubrovnik, and Naples.
Large ships couldn’t enter the narrow river, allowing pirates to retreat safely into the canyon and up to their fortress. It was geography turned into strategy – and it made Omiš one of the most powerful pirate strongholds in the Adriatic.

Today, the swords are gone – but the dramatic scenery remains. And instead of attacking ships, visitors now fly across the canyon.
What to Expect at Zipline Croatia Omiš
The Zipline Croatia Omiš course is one of Europe’s longest and most scenic zipline experiences, stretching over 2 kilometres across eight separate cables, suspended high above the Cetina Canyon.
Starting Point & Practical Information
Your adventure begins in Omiš town centre, just a short walk from the main car park (43.445968, 16.689000), located across the Cetina River.
After check-in at the zipline office, you’re transported by minibus into the mountains above the canyon. As you climb higher, the Adriatic disappears behind you and rugged limestone cliffs take over the horizon.
A few important things to know:
- Not suitable for very young children
- Once you reach the starting point, participation is mandatory
- Groups move together – each platform waits for the last person
- Full experience can take up to 3 hours (often shorter)
- 2026 price: €80 per person
There’s detailed information and a helpful FAQ section on the official website, which is worth reviewing before booking.
Safety & Preparation
At base camp, you’re fitted with professional safety gear and given a thorough briefing. The instructors are friendly, calm, and highly experienced – reassuring when you’re about to launch yourself 150 metres above a canyon floor.
Before the real adventure begins, you complete a short practice line to build confidence.
Then comes the moment.

The First Flight: 700 Metres of Pure Freedom
The opening line is the longest – a breathtaking 700-metre glide high above the Cetina River.
Suspended between mountains, you feel weightless. The descent isn’t extremely fast at first, which allows you to absorb the views. But be prepared for sidewinds – they add just enough unpredictability to spike your adrenaline.
For a few seconds, it’s just you and the vast Croatian landscape stretching endlessly below.
Each of the remaining seven lines offers something slightly different:
- Steeper sections for speed lovers
- Longer panoramic glides for soaking in the scenery
- Continuous dramatic canyon views framed by cliffs and emerald water
For couples, this is more than just an activity. It’s one of those shared experiences that strengthens connection – equal parts thrill, trust, and laughter.
Romantic Riverside Dining at Radmanove Mlinice
After soaring across a canyon, you will be hungry.

While Omiš has plenty of cafés and restaurants, we chose something more atmospheric. About 6 km upstream (43.438389, 16.750960), you’ll find Radmanove Mlinice, a riverside restaurant hidden beneath tall trees along the Cetina River.
It feels like a peaceful escape from the coast – green, shaded, and refreshingly cool even during peak summer.
As we enjoyed a late lunch, kayaks drifted gently past. Rafting is another popular activity in the area, and you’ll see plenty of adventurous couples paddling downriver.
The food is generous and well-priced considering the scenic location. Expect grilled meats, traditional Croatian dishes, and relaxed, unhurried service – the perfect contrast to a high-energy morning.
For couples, it’s an ideal place to unwind and relive the experience over a glass of wine.
The Scenic Drive Back to Sevid
Instead of returning via the main E67 road, we chose the winding Route 70 through the mountains.
While the most dramatic peaks appear closer to Omiš, there are several roadside viewpoints worth stopping for. If you take this route, your partner should keep the camera ready – the scenery is stunning.
At the junction near Tugare (43.462358, 16.676622), we turned inland before reconnecting with the coastal road toward Sevid.
It turned a simple return drive into part of the adventure.
Why Omiš is Perfect for Couples Visiting Croatia

The wild heart of Croatia is waiting.
