Rome is one of the most visited cities in the world – and that means one thing: not every plate of pasta is created equal.
It’s easy to end up paying tourist prices for average food. But if you know where to go, the Eternal City rewards you with unforgettable flavours, intimate atmospheres, and meals that become part of your travel memories.
During a mid-October weekend in Rome, we set ourselves a simple goal: eat exceptionally well. No cooking classes this time (we had done that on a previous trip). This visit was purely about discovering the best restaurants in Rome for couples who truly love food.
Here are the places that stood out.
Breakfast Near Termini: NOI Roma
If you’re staying near Termini Station and wondering where to eat in Rome beyond the typical quick espresso and cornetto, NOI Roma (corner of Via Gaeta and Via Volturno) is worth your attention.

Yes, it’s not the cheapest breakfast in Rome. We paid around €40 for two – each having a full breakfast dish, coffee, and freshly squeezed orange juice.
But here’s the difference:
This wasn’t a rushed, standing-at-the-bar breakfast. It was slow, relaxed, and beautifully presented. The ingredients were fresh, flavours clean and balanced, and the service attentive without being intrusive.
For couples starting a romantic weekend in Rome, this is the kind of place where you linger over coffee and plan your day.
Fresh, Authentic Pizza Near Papal Basilica of Saint Mary Major
You can’t write a Rome food guide without mentioning pizza.
On our walk from Termini towards the Colosseum, we stopped at Pizzeria Mediterranea (Via Agostino Depretis 76). It’s a simple takeaway-style spot with a few small tables outside – nothing fancy.

But the pizza? Exactly what you want in Rome.
We paid around €8 for two generous slices. The crust was thin and crisp, the toppings fresh, and the flavour beautifully balanced – rich tomato sauce, creamy mozzarella, and just the right amount of olive oil.
Sometimes the best food experiences in Rome aren’t in elegant dining rooms. They’re on a street corner, sharing pizza under the Roman sky.
Romantic Dinner on Tiber Island: Tiberino Ristorante
For dinner, we wanted atmosphere.
We chose Tiber Island (Isola Tiberina) – a small island in the Tiber River, just steps from Trastevere yet far quieter. It’s one of those places that already feels special before you even sit down.
We dined at Tiberino Ristorante Bar (Via di Ponte Quattro Capi 18), and it turned out to be one of the most enjoyable dinners of the trip.
The dishes were comforting yet refined – classic Italian flavours executed with care. Homemade-style pasta, beautifully prepared mains, a balanced dessert, and Italian wine to match. We ended with cappuccino, as one should.
The total bill was around €40 for two – remarkable value for the quality and location.
For couples looking for romantic restaurants in Rome without excessive prices, this is an excellent choice.
A Special Occasion Lunch: Clorofilla Cucina & Distillati
Before leaving Rome, we wanted one truly memorable meal.
Hidden on a quiet street near Campo de’ Fiori (Vicolo delle Grotte 17), Clorofilla Cucina & Distillati doesn’t immediately reveal how special it is. From the outside, you would never guess the culinary creativity happening inside.

This is modern Italian cuisine with vision.
Every plate looked like artwork – carefully composed, elegant, and full of surprising detail. The flavours were refined, layered, and thoughtful. You could feel that the chef wasn’t just cooking – he was creating.
For two people enjoying a two-course meal with drinks, dessert, and espresso, the bill came to around €120 (excluding tip). And it was worth every cent.
If you’re planning a foodie weekend in Rome or celebrating something special, this is the kind of restaurant that elevates your trip from enjoyable to unforgettable.
Final Thoughts: Is Rome Good for Food-Loving Couples?
Absolutely – but you need to choose wisely.
Rome offers everything from quick street pizza to refined modern cuisine. The key is avoiding the obvious tourist traps and seeking places where quality comes first.
For couples who love:
- Sharing plates
- Discovering hidden restaurants
- Long dinners with wine
- Balancing casual bites with one exceptional meal
Rome delivers – beautifully.
A romantic weekend in Rome isn’t just about ancient ruins and cobbled streets. It’s about sitting across from each other at a small table, tasting something extraordinary, and knowing you chose well.
